Lantern Night

Last night the International School of Lusaka (ISL) held a “Lantern Night”.  The kids wanted to go (except Jason who would almost always rather stay home) so we risked the rain and attended.  They didn’t do a very good job of marketing the event as I really didn’t know what to expect but hoped there might be a chance for some photos, so I took my camera.

The kids had fun and I was able to get a few photos that are worth posting…

The lanterns are made of paper with a metal ring at the bottom that holds a small flammable square.  You light the square and wait for enough heat to be captured to float the lantern off into the sky.

Jared got to help with one.

Justin also helped his friend.

The group wasn’t very coordinated but dozens of lanterns did go up.  I was hoping for more but it was still a nice night out.
