Lunch served at Chisomo Drop-in Center

In my opinion, one of the best days of the recent visit of our friends, the Riggenbach’s, was the day we spent at Chisomo Drop-in Center.  As you may know, Chisomo is one of the partners we work closely with.  Chisomo provides a safe place for kids on the street to eat, sleep, bathe, wash clothes, get medical attention, etc.  Our only plan was to visit and share a meal with the kids but there was a lot going on that morning.  Fortunately, the water bill had been paid and the water had returned (Chisomo is really struggling financially).  After spending some time in the morning with them, we slipped out to buy some additional food for lunch (mealie meal (think white corn meal for making nshima), cooking oil (Zambian’s don’t cook without it), bondwe (greens), salt and a few other items).  I think it was one of the best meals I have had in Zambia.

Photo: The white lumps are nshima (made from corn meal, this is the staple food of Zambia and much of Southern Africa).  Moving left is beans, then the bondwe (greens), and then chicken with “soup” (sauce).
